Pension systems must ensure a dignified old age in the region
One of the significant transformations brought by the Inter-American Convention on the Protection of the Human Rights of Older Persons is the crystallization of the paradigm shift regarding old age, moving from a purely assistance-based approach to centering older persons as autonomous and independent rights holders. An important aspect of autonomy in old age is economic independence, which translates into a clear reality: older persons require a pension to live with dignity.
